Vredehoek

Content

Located on the slopes of Table Mountain, and between Devil’s Peak Estate and Oranjezicht, Vredehoek is the perfect location for a young traveller looking for a spot just outside of the city centre but still in the heart of Cape Town and near everything you might need in terms of work, shops, transport and leisure.

With this neighbourhood falling just outside of the busy streets of the city, it forms a quiet enough environment to work. And during your off time, there is much to explore within a stone’s throw away, such as Table Mountain with its Aerial Cableway and numerous hiking trails. Free guided tours throughout town are also available, with the likes of the Historic City Tour, Apartheid to Freedom Tour and the Bo-Kaap Tour. As well as the endless list of beaches such as Camps Bay, Glen Beach, Clifton beaches, and Llandudno to name a few within just a few minutes drive. The Sea Point Promenade, also located within a few kilometres from Vredehoek, is a major tourist attraction, where you can go for a stroll, a run, or a bike ride from sunrise to sunset.

Local amenities

There is a KWIKSPAR on Derry Street, perfect for everyday grocery shopping. However if you are looking for a bigger variety in terms of shops, the Gardens Shopping Centre is within a mere couple of kilometres, in the neighbouring suburb of Gardens. Gibson’s Gourmet Burgers is the go-to for mouthwatering burgers! And Lazari, as well as Con Brio Bistro are both favourites amongst locals.

Safety

Vredehoek is one of the safer areas in Cape Town. However, there has been an increase in crime incidents in the past couple of years. Tourists are advised to be vigilant of their surroundings and not to have any valuables on display, such as cameras, phones, and earphones. Also do not roam the streets at night or carry large amounts of cash. Regardless, Vredehoek still remains an increasingly popular suburb to rent and own property amongst many young locals and expats.

Schools

Similar to that of Gardens and Tamboerskloof, the top schools to attend are, Sugar & Spice Nursery, The German International School, and Camps Bay Pre and Primary School.
