Hout Bay

Content

An old fishing village, beautifully tucked in between mountains and wine farms, and on route to Chapmans Peak Drive, Hout Bay has a warm countryside feel to it, packed with a whole load of outdoor adventure! One doesn’t need to travel too far out of Hout Bay to explore, as you have nature right on your doorstep!

With Hout Bay beach and the harbour within walking distance. Beware, this may test your fitness levels as the neighbourhood is quite hilly, but it is absolutely worth it as the scenery is breathtaking! There are also a number of hiking trails to soak in the beauty that this valley holds. Hout Bay is quite possibly the best value for money on the Atlantic Seaboard, with large homes that often have big gardens, and if you’re lucky enough, a swimming pool too! Plus, it comes at a great price point! On the other side of Hout Bay lies Llandudno with its pristine white sands, and the well known Sandy Bay for the naturalistic at heart. Hout Bay is the perfect location for travelling families as there are some wonderful and safe play parks for children, and the peace and tranquillity that comes with being nestled in nature, makes for a quiet work space. The city is a mere 18 km away, should you need to meet up at the business district for formal meetings, etc.

Local amenities

There are some unique, trendy, local design shops that have a hippie vibe to it. You are sure to find some-one-of-a-kind pieces here as gifts or home decor. There are plenty of grocery shops nearby, with Mainstream Mall and Victoria Mall on the 2 main roads that run through Hout Bay. These shopping centres offer everything that you may need in terms of daily supplies. Some local favourite restaurants such as Cheynes / Lucky Bao (Asian Food), The Indian Oven, Deus ex Machina (Bar and restaurant), and Mariner’s Warf for some delicious freshly caught seafood.

Safety

As far as safety goes, Hout Bay is quite safe. Higher up against the mountains you’ll see some of the most beautiful homes with a tight knitted community of neighbours who also look out for each other in terms of safety. Here you will also find the famous heritage site, The Castle of Good Hope, as well as the Lichtenstein Castle. The downside is that there are two informal settlements on either side of the bay, so be sure not to walk around after dark. Especially out of the main areas. However, Most of Hout Bay is under surveillance through CCP for added security of residents.

Residents can also make use of the Buzzer app https://buzzer-app.co.za/

Here users can get help in an emergency by pushing the SOS button. If your community is connected to professional responders, they will already be en route the moment your SOS is received. In situations where it isn’t an immediate emergency, users also have the option to report an incident to give more information about the situation. Such as: Suspicious activity, Fire, Municipal related issues, Crime, Traffic, Wildlife, and even Medical (where this can allow first aiders near you to provide help until paramedics arrive.)

Schools

Reddam House Constantia remains a favourite amongst locals and tourists. As well as Hout Bay International School and The Bay Academy which are both brilliant schools!
