One of the earliest suburbs and situated on the slopes of Devils Peak, Woodstock speaks a language of its own. It is something that can be felt within your soul when you walk through the hip, trendy and extremely eclectic streets of Woodstock. Here you will find hipster cafes, bars, eateries and art galleries all in an old factory style setup with walls decorated with vivid murals and graffiti art.
Take a walk down to the Old Biscuit Mill on Albert Road, which is home to design stores as well as the weekly Neighbourgoods Market, with delicious street food stalls, African handicrafts and local designer fashion. The age demographic of Woodstock is predominantly between 20 and 40, with it being a particular favourite to students, as The University of Cape Town is within close proximity. The homes are colourful, bohemian, and most of them have high ceilings and wooden floors. Woodstock is a great space to be in if you’re a designer or craftsman looking for inspiration, new materials or amazing deals/collaborations with local craftsmen alike. All of the above being said, it is definitely more suited to a younger traveller with an artsy edge to their personal taste.
Safety can be an issue here so do be weary when walking around, and avoid roaming the streets at night. Grabbing an Uber would be your best bet when exploring.
There are a number of small shops to get your daily goods from. As well as SPAR, if you are looking for a larger supermarket for groceries and supplies.
There are a number of schools here. However, It is recommended to travel outside of Woodstock to areas such as Camps Bay, Sea Point, Gardens or Constantia for schools that are better suited to the international market.
Woodstock is for you if you have quite an eclectic taste in art, music, food and architecture.
